#28 Men's Tennis Picks Up Big Win Over #21 N.C. Wesleyan, 8-1

Fredericksburg, Va.-- The University of Mary Washington men's tennis team won on the final day of the UMW Invite, 8-1 over #21 N.C. Wesleyan. The Eagles won two of three doubles matches, and all six singles matches en route to the victory.

Tyler Carey and Evan Charles were 8-5 winners over Mikhail Konnov/Peter Hviid at one doubles, while Alex Blakhin and David Lunding-Johansson provided the other win at three doubles. The pair defeated Philipp Vylegzhanin/Ben Tolhurst 8-4.

Charles, Blakhin, and Lunding-Johansson were all straight set winners at two, five and four singles. Stratton Gilmore was a 6-2, 6-3 winner at three singles, with freshman Brandon Griffin winning four and zero at six singles. Tyler Carey needed three sets against Konnov at one singles. Carey won the thriller 6-2, 4-6, 6-3.

The #28 Eagles return to action with three matches in California as part of their spring trip. The Eagles face #7 Cal Lutheran on March 3rd at 2:00 p.m. UMW then takes on #17 Pomona-Pitzer on March 6th, and finally #14 Redlands on March 8th.
