#28 Mary Washington Men's Tennis Picks Up Two Wins on Day One of UMW Invite

Fredericksburg, Va.-- The #28 ranked Mary Washington men's tennis team picked up a 9-0 win over Vassar, and a 6-3 win over Denison on Saturday. The wins move the Eagles to 5-0 on the year.

In the first match, UMW won all three doubles matches, and all six singles matches to cruise to the victory. The Eagles won five of the six singles matches in straight sets, with Alex Blakhin needing three sets to win at number three.

The Eagles started off the match with Denison by dropping two of the three doubles matches. Blakhin and David Lunding-Johansson won the only double match for the Eagles. The pair defeated Jackson O'Gorman-Bean and Jeffery LoDuca 8-3 at no. 3.

UMW won all but one singles match to claim the victory. Tyler Carey and Evan Charles won in straight sets at No. 1 and 2 respectively. Carey was a 7-6, 6-2 winner, while Charles won 6-1, 6-2. Stratton Gilmore won in two sets at No. 3; 6-4, 7-6 (7-5). Lunding-Johansson and Brandon Griffin rounded out the wins at five and six in straight sets. Lunding-Johansson was a 6-3, 6-3 victor, with Griffin winning two and four.

The Eagles close out the UMW Invitational against #21 N.C. Wesleyan tomorrow. The match with the Battling Bishops begins at 9:00 a.m.
