Fredericksburg, Va.-- The University of Mary Washington men's tennis team picked up two wins to start the dual season, both 9-0 over Bridgewater and Methodist. The Eagles only dropped one set all day en route to the opening day wins.
Against Bridgewater, the duo of Evan Charles and Stratton Gilmore defeated Christian Lynn and Mike Cable, 8-1; while Alex Blakhin and David Lunding-Johansson rolled past Kyle Heartfield and Same Chruchill 8-2. Andrew Curtis and Brandon Griffin finished the doubles sweep over Brandon Larsen and Drew Hubble 8-4.
In singles action Charles, Lunding-Johansson, Curtis, Scott Buie and Alex Cragg each earned sraight set victories, while Griffin needed three sets to earn the win.
Against Methodist, Charles and Gilmore earned and 8-4 doubles win, with Blakhin/Lunding-Johansson (8-3) and Curtis/Griffin winning 8-2. The Eagles won each match in straight set in singles action to earn another 9-0 win.
UMW returns to the courts against Stevens at Swarthmore University on February 15th. First serve is set for 1:00 p.m.
