Men's Tennis Has Strong Showing on Day Two of Mason Invitational

SUNDAY RESULTS

Fairfax, Va.-- The University of Mary Washington men's tennis team picked up a number of wins on Sunday from George Mason. The Eagles competed against host George Mason as well as Mount St. Mary's University.

In doubles action, the Eagles won three of the four matches with the Mount. The duo of Tyler Carey and Evan Charles defeated Peter Salomon and Loius Tonon, 8-0. Alex Blakhin and David Lunding-Johansson got into the act, downing Austin Blake and Darren Mast, 8-2. Stratton Glimore and Brandon Griffin rounded out the wins, with an 8-1 victory over Justin Olexa and Anthony Adams.

The Eagles then faced the host Patriots, with George Mason taking eight of the nine matches. Freshman Alex Cragg was the lone winner against Mason, knocking off Nick Barker in straight sets, 6-3, 7-5.

Against the Mount, UMW took all seven matches with the Mountaineers. Carey defeated Austin Blake, 6-3, 6-2. Gilmore, Lunding-Johansson, Griffin and Blahkin also won in straight sets. Glimore knocked off Peter Salomon 7-6 (1), 6-1 while Lunding-Johansson defeated Darren Mast 6-0, 7-6 (3). Griffin was a 7-6 (4), 7-5 winner over Louis Tonon. Blakhin was victorious over Justin Olexa 6-0, 6-4. Andrew Curtis was a 6-0, 6-1 winner, defeating Anthony Adams. Marcell Rengifo rounded out the wins against the Mount with a 6-1, 6-3 win against Will Briscoe. Alex Cragg picked up another singles win against Mason's Yousseff Khalafallah, 6-0, 6-3.

The Eagles return to action this weekend, when they compete in the ITA Southeast Regional on September 28-30. The event will take place at the UMW Tennis Center.
