#22 UMW Men's Tennis Falls to Stevens in NCAA Tournament Second Round, 5-4

The University of Mary Washington men's tennis team dropped a 5-4 decision to Stevens Institute of Technology in Amherst, Mass. on Friday in the second round of the NCAA Division III Championship tournament. The Eagles close the season with a record of 14-12.

The Eagles fell behind, 2-1, after doubles, despite gaining the first point with an 8-1 win at three doubles from David Lunding-Johansson and Alex Blakhin. Evan Charles and Sam Wichlin fell at one, 8-5, and Tyler Carey and Kaleb Nguyen fell at two, 8-3.

In singles, UMW quickly took the lead, as Lunding-Johansson won at four, 6-1, 6-2; Wichlin won at five, 6-2, 6-1, and Nguyen won at six, 6-0, 6-0. Carey fell at one, 6-2, 6-3, but Blakhin and Charles overcame first set losses to send their matches to third sets.

Blakhin fell in the third, 6-3, and Charles fell 7-5 in the third after fighting off four dueces in the last point.

Carey will advance to the NCAA singles championship in Kalamazoo, Michigan next week.
