The University of Mary Washington men's swimming team defeated Southern Virginia University, 165.5-95.5, and Marymount University, 219-32, on Friday evening in the home opener at Goolrick Natatorium. The Eagles move to 2-1 on the season.
The Eagles opened the meet with a win in the 200 yard medley relay, as Paul Datovech, Aidan Deege, Thomas Leckrone, and Ellis Winfree swam to a first place time of 1:36.94. Sophomore Conrad Tan followed with a win in the 1000 yard freestyle, with a time of 10:21.70. Freshman Jakob Robinette followed with a win in the 200 yard freestyle at 1:47.48, and freshman Kyle Diederich won the 100 yard backstroke at 54.49.
Deege won the 100 yard breaststroke at 1:00.92, and senior Kolin Hoffman won the 200 yard butterfly at 2:04.71, with teammate Sean Blackmer taking second at 2:05.29. The Eagles finished 2-3-4 in the 50 free, before finishing 2-3-4-5 in the 100 free. Alex Aung won the 200 yard backstroke at 2:01.28 as UMW finished 1-2-3, and Tan took the 500 free at 5:01.50, with Hoffman taking second.
Thomas Leckrone won the 100 yard butterfly at 53.22, with Zachary Cherry taking second, before the 400 free relay tied for first at 3:15.05.
The Eagles will be back in action on Saturday in an alumni exhibition at 9 a.m.
