UMW Men's Swimming Captures 2019 CAC Championship

The University of Mary Washington men's swimming team captured its 25th Capital Athletic Conference Championship, and 19th consecutively, on Sunday night at the 2019 CAC Chamionships in St. Mary's City, Md. 

Mary Washington senior Jeff Leckrone, UMW freshman Thomas Leckrone, and Mary Washington head coach Justin Anderson collected major awards to headline the 2019 All-CAC Men's Swimming team. 

Scoring for the meet was a follows:

1. University of Mary Washington 1064.5
2. York College of Pennsylvania 651
3. Salisbury University 488
4. Frostburg State University 352
5. St. Mary's College of Maryland 351.5

In Sunday's action, Jeffrey Leckrone started the proceedings with a first place finish in the 100 yard individual medley with a time of 51.82, a new CAC and championship record. He was followed in third place by Mark Dye. Austin Farrar finished second in the mile at 16:25.03, followed by teammate Bradley Walker in thid place, Preston Everitt in sixth, and Ryan Lloyd in seventh.

Matthew Curran took first in the 200 yard backstroke at 1:55.43, while Luke Bergstrom finished third and Carsen Mumford sixth. Brian Harnish won the 100 yard freestyle at 46.16, with Jeremy Robertson third, Gareth Mancini sixth, Matthew Scott seventh, and Garrett Ross eighth. 

Leckrone knocked an amazing five seconds off his preliminary time to win the 200 breaststroke at 2:00.67, and was followed by Dye in third place and Jonathan Brooks in fourth. Bradley Torrington took second in the 200 butterfly at 1:53.05, and was followed by Kolin Hoffman in third, Noah Carpenter in fourth, Matt Whoriskey in seventh, and Thomas Leckrone in eighth.

The 400 freestyle relay of Mancini, Robertson, Leckrone, and Harnish won the final event of the night, touching first at 3:06.14.
