UMW Men's and Women's Swimmer Gain Leads in CAC Swimming Championships

The University of Mary Washington men's and women's swimming teams kept their leads at the 2019 Capital Athletic Conference Championships on Friday in St. Mary's City, Md. 

The women saw Claudia Keller take second in the 500 yard freestyle at 5:08.33, with Callie Dunham placing fourth and Macey Lynch sixth. In the 200 individual medley, Grace Nicolai took first at 2:07.22, while Julia Geskey finished third, Mary Zagrobelny fourth, Megan Carney fifth, and Sally Burkley seventh.

In the 50 freestyle, Sydney Hall and Grace Gartman tied for second place at 24.57. Gartman, Geskey, Carley Vaughn and Hall finished first in the 200 free relay at 1:37.89.

On the men's side, in the 500 freestyle, Austin Farrar finished second at 4:38.94, with Kolin Hoffman third, Joshua Duke in fifth, and Matthew Scott sixth. In the 200 yard IM, Noah Carpenter took second at 1:52.81, followed by Matthew Curran in fourth, Carsen Mumford in sixth, and Jonathan Brooks in seventh. 

Garrett Ross was fourth in the 50 freestyle, with Jeremy Robertson fifth and Brian Harnish sixth. The 200 yard free relay of Ross, Gareth Mancini, Jeffrey Leckrone and Robertson took first at 1:23.69.

The championships will continue on Saturday.
