UMW Men's Swimming Defeats St. Mary's on Saturday, 217-35

The University of Mary Washington men's swim team swam past Capital Athletic Conference foe St. Mary's College, 217-35, on Saturday in St. Mary's City, Md. 

The Eagles opened by finishing 1-2-3-4 in the 200 yard medley relay, with Gareth Mancini, Jonathan Brooks, Jeffrey Leckrone, and Garrett Ross touching first at 1:38.92. Noah Carpenter finished first in the 1000 freestyle at 10:12.69, as the Eagles again finished 1-2-3-4, and Austin Farrar won the 200 freestyle at 1:45.69, as the Eagles again took the top three spots.

Matthew Curran finished first in the 100 yard backstroke at 54.71, leading an Eagle 1-2-3 contingent, and Jeffrey Leckrone won the 100 breaststroke at 57.90, as UMW took the top four times. Bradley Torrington won the 200 yard butterfly at 2:01.24, with Matt Whoriskey taking second. Brian Harnish won the 50 freestyle at 22.42, and finished second to Matthew Scott (48.55) in the 100 free. 

Luke Bergstrom won the 200 backstroke at 2:06.09 to lead a four-member Eagle contingent, and Leckrone won the 200 breaststroke at 2:09.40, as UMW finished 1-2-3-4. Carpenter finished first in the 500 freestyle at 5:00.62, and Thomas Leckrone won the 100 butterfly at 54.10. Farrar won the 400 IM at 4:12.10, and the Eagles swept the 200 free relay, with Mark Dye, Bradley Walker, Curran and Mancini touching first at 1:30.71.

The Eagles will visit Gettysburg College next Saturday at 1 p.m.
