Farrar Named CAC Rookie of the Year as All-CAC Swimming Team Announced

YORK, Pa. - Frostburg State junior Christian March became the first male swimmer from Frostburg State to earn Athlete of the Year honors at the 2017 CAC Championship meet last weekend at St. Mary's, headlining the All-CAC Men's Swimming team. 

March captured three individual titles en route to Athlete of the Year accolades, helping the Bobcats post their highest team point total at the championships in program history. March won the 50 freestyle, 100 breaststroke, and the 200 breaststroke for Frostburg State. 

Mary Washington raced to its 17th consecutive and 23rd overall CAC men's swimming title in impressive fashion, piecing together a conference-best 16 All-CAC awards in the process. Senior Dallas Tarkenton led the way for the Eagles with six total gold medals, three individually and three on relays. Individually, Tarkenton won the 200 IM for fourth straight year, the 100 butterfly for the third straight year, and the 200 butterfly for the second year in a row.

Tarkenton also teamed with Garrett RossDylan GoreJake SchrothTyler GimpleCarsen Mumford, and Mark Dye for a trio of relay wins. For his career, Tarkenton compiled 23 All-CAC honors, totatling 21 golds and two silvers at the championship meet.  

UMW freshman Austin Farrar nabbed Rookie of the Year honors, becoming the 12th Eagle overall and second straight to claim the award. Farrar won the 400 IM and was part of the winning 800 freestyle relay along with junior Kenyon Huber-Wilker, Gore, and Gimple. He also took second in the 500 freestyle, earning second team accolades. 

Other UMW swimmers on the All-CAC first team included Scroth in the 200 freestyle, Gimple in the 1,650 freestyle, and junior Christian Berardo in the 100 IM. Landing on the second team for the Eagles were Dye in the 100 breaststroke, Huber-Wilker in the 200 breaststroke, sophomore Jeffrey Leckrone in the 100 IM, and freshman Noah Carpenter in the 400 IM. 

York head coach Greg Doyle was selected by his peers as the men's Coach of the Year after guiding the Spartans to a second-place team finish. In his second year at the helm of the York program, this is Doyle's first CAC COTY honor. 

The Spartans placed three individuals and three relays on the All-CAC team. Junior Morgan Schreiber paced the squad with first team accolades in both the 100 and 200 backstroke for the second straight year. Senior Ian Kruper received first team honors in the 100 freestyle, while freshman Jesse Tate picked up a trio of All-CAC second team awards in the 100 butterfly, 200 butterfly, and 200 IM. 

York's 400 medley relay of Schreiber, Tate, Kruper and Glaucio Silva nabbed first team recognition, while Shreiber, Tate, and Silva were also a part of second-place relays along with Drew Newman and Trevor Brinton

Salisbury sophomore Pete Moyer represented the Sea Gulls on the All-CAC first team, capturing gold in the 500 freestyle for his first individual victory at the championships. Moyer also placed second in the 200 freestyle, and contributed to a silver-medal 400 freestyle relay with Okan EyigorConor Johnston, and Jake Blazer

Eyigor, a senior, wrapped up his career with his fourth straight All-CAC nod in the 200 backstroke, taking second place. He also earned second team honors in the 100 backstroke and 400 medley relay. Blazer, Tyler Maggio, and Stephen Arcidiacono were also on the second-place 400 medley team for SU. 

Marymount senior Tyler Hayes earned his second straight All-CAC second team award in the 50 freestyle and teamed with James GibbonsTrey Brown, and William Bryan for second place in the 200 freestyle relay. 

St. Mary's sophomore Colin Cassady represented the Seahawks on the All-CAC squad after finishing second in the 100 freestyle.
