UMW's Cockerille, Tarkenton, and Walnut Named CAC Athletes of the Week

YORK, Pa. - - The Capital Athletic Conference announced its Jan. 19, 2016, weekly award winners:

Mary Washington junior Dallas Tarkenton was named the CAC Men's Swimming Athlete of the Week for the second straight time after helping the Eagles to CAC wins over St. Mary's and Salisbury last week with three individual and three relay victories. Against St. Mary's, Tarkenton won the 100 butterfly at 51.35 and was a member of the winning 200 freestyle relay. Against Salisbury, he won the 100 butterfly at 57.81 and the 200 butterfly at 2:14.06. He was also a member of the winning 200 medley relay at 1:50.31 and the 200 freestyle relay at 1:39.62.

Mary Washington senior Ashley Walnut was named the CAC Women's Swimming Athlete of the Week after helping the Eagles defeat Salisbury and St. Mary's last week with four individual victories and a relay win. She won the 800 freestyle at Salisbury with a time of 9:49.97, and then won the 400 free, touching in 4:45.34. Against the Seahawks, Walnut helped the Eagles stay unbeaten on the year with wins in the 1,000 freestyle at 11:03.00 as well as the 100 freestyle at 55.18. She closed her senior day performance by helping the all-senior 200 free relay team to a first-place finish at 1:43.38.

Christopher Newport swept this week's awards as sophomore Ryan Scott and freshman Jonathan Graham were honored as the CAC Men's Track & Field Athletes of the Week for Jan. 19, 2016. Scott was named the CAC Track Athlete of the Week after winning the 200 and 400 meters at the CNU Triangular on Friday at the Freeman Center. Graham was named the CAC Field Athlete of the Week after breaking the CNU and conference record in the pole vault during the CNU Triangular.

Frostburg State sophomore Kayla Truesdel and Mary Washington senior Taylor Cockerille were selected as the CAC Women's Track & Field Athletes of the Week for Jan. 19, 2016. Truesdel was awarded as the CAC Track Athlete of the Week after opening the 2016 portion of the indoor schedule with three wins and a runner-up showing at the Marietta Open. Cockerille was named the CAC Field Athlete of the Week after setting personal records in the shot put and weight throw at the CNU Triangular.
