UMW Men's Swimmers Widen Lead on Day Two of CAC Championships

The University of Mary Washington men's swim team opened its lead to 323 points following day two action at the 2016 Capital Athletic Conference Championships at St. Mary's College on Saturday.

The men started the day by claiming first place in the 200 yard medley relay, as Sean Mayer, Jake Schroth, Dallas Tarkenton, and Ricardo Bonilla-Vazquez touched out at 1:32.17, just ahead of second place York.

The Eagles finished 1-2-3 in the 400 IM, as Matt Martinez finished first, trimming nearly 12 seconds off his prelims time, at 4:08.92. Anthony Stephens was second and Connor Nye third. UMW finished 1-2-3-4 in the 100 yard butterfly, with Tarkenton placing first at 48.68 seconds, with Nate Hartt second, Mayer third, and Christian Berardo fourth. Tarkenton's time was a new meet and conference record.

The Eagles finished 2-3-4-5 in the 200 yard freestyle, with Tyler Gimple taking second. Kenyon Huber-Wilker was third in the 100 breaststroke, and Sean Mayer was second in the 100 backstroke.

Mayer, Huber-Wilker, Gimple, and Zach Eisig took first in the 800 free relay at 6:54.45.

The championships will conclude on Sunday.
