The University of Mary Washington men's swimming team won four of five races, including both relays, in dominating fashion to open day one of the 2016 Capital Athletic Conference Championships at St. Mary's College on Friday.

The men opened the evening finals with a win in the 200 free relay, as Dallas Tarkenton, Matthew Garstka, Ricardo Bonilla-Vazquez, and Vance Solseth taking first with a time of 1:24.74, which smashed the conference and championship meet record.

In the men's 500 yard freestyle, Tyler Gimple touched first at 4:34.81, a new meet record and provisional qualifying time for NCAAs. Teammate Zach Eisig took second, at 4:36.00, and Chris Cassingham third at 4:41.31.

The Eagles were dominant in the 200 yard IM, finishing 1-2-3-4-6-7 in the final. Dallas Tarkenton was first at 1:51.88, tying the meet record and qualifying provisionally for NCAAs. He was followed by Bonilla-Vazquez in second at 1:55.01, Kenyon Huber-Wilker in third at 1:56.08, and Dylan Gore in fourth at 1:56.97.

The evening came to a close with an historic swim, as the 400 medley relay of Sean Mayer, Huber-Wilker, Tarkenton, and Bonilla-Vazquez touched the wall at 3:23.49, a time that destroyed the conference record by more than six seconds and ranks as one of the top times in the nation this year.

The Championships will continue on Saturday with preliminaries at 10 a.m. and finals at 6 p.m.
