UMW Swim Teams Dominate at York in Regular Season Finale

The University of Mary Washington men's and women's swimming teams closed the regular season in grand fashion defeating York College on Saturday in the regular season finale. The teams combined for 10 pool records on the day, as the men won, 189-72, while the women won, 194-66.

The day started with the women winning the 200 yard medley relay, with Katie Fago, Anna Corley, Hannah Hagy and Stephanie Hallock taking first at 1:47.78. The men followed with a win, with Sean Mayer, Vance Solseth, Dallas Tarkenton, and Matthew Garstka finishing first at 1:36.42.

Kris Currie finished first in the women's 1000 at 11:07.41, with Maggie Neubig taking second. For the men, Zach Eisig took first at 10:00.31, followed by teammate Chris Cassingham. Tyler Gimple and Jeremy Robertson finished 1-2 in the 200 freestyle, and the Eagles finished 1-2-3-4 in the 100 backstroke, with Katie Fago winning at 57.85, followed by Taylor Mooney, Maddie Rymer, and Michaela Miller.

Anna Corley took first in the 100 yard breaststroke at 1:06.96, followed by Hagy in second, and Abby Cox won the 200 fly at 2:14.90. Tarkenton won the 200 fly at 1:57.55, and came back to win the 100 freestyle at 49.14. Hallock won the 50 freestyle at 25.04, with Emily Adams taking second and Kait Luncher third.

Garstka won the men's 50 at 22.27, and Hallock came back to win the 100 at 54.27. Corley won the 200 backstroke at 2:08.14, and Dylan Gore took the men's race at 2:01.39. Hagy won the 200 breaststroke at 2:29.45, just ahead of Cox, and the Eagle men took 1-2-3-4 in the 500 free, with Tyler Gimple winning at 4:48.14.

Shannon Coryell and Christian Berardo won the 100 fly races at 1:00.03 and 52.56, respectively, before Megan Murphy and Ricardo Bonilla-Vazquez won the 200 IMs at 2:15.97 and 2:00.20. Fago, Coryell, Hagy and Hallock won the women's 200 free relay, and Solseth, Bonilla-Vazquez, Garstka, and Mayer won the men's race at 1:28.53.

The Eagles will return to action on February 19-21 at the CAC Championships at St. Mary's Coillege. Preliminaries start at 10 am, with the finals following at 6 p.m.
