UMW Men's Swimmers Top St. Mary's, 147.5-55.5, on Senior Day

The University of Mary Washington men's swimming team defeated St. Mary's College, 147.5-55.5, in the final home meet of the season at Goolrick Natatorium on Saturday afternoon. The Eagles, winners of six straight meets, improve to 6-1 on the year.

The Eagles started the day taking first and second in the 200 medley relay, with a senior quartet of Sean Mayer, Vance Solseth, Nate Hartt, and Matthew Garstka taking first at 1:37.50. Senior Zach Eisig took first in the 1000 freestyle at 10:07.86, and Tyler Gimple followed with a first in the 200 freestyle at 1:46.85, as UMW finished 1-2-3.

Garstka then won the 50 free at 22.24, with Solseth taking second, and then Dallas Tarkenton won the 100 butterfly at 51.35, as UMW went 1-2-3 again. Ricardo Bonilla-Vazquez finished first in the 100 freestyle at 49.16, with classmate Jake Schroth taking second, and Mayer won the 100 backstroke at 54.09.

Eisig won the 500 free at 4:53.56, and Jeffrey Leckrone won the 100 breaststroke at 1:00.99. The Eagles closed the day as Tyler Gimple, Schroth, Tarkenton, and Chris Cassingham won the 200 free relay at 1:29.32.

The Eagles will be back in action next Saturday when they visit Gettysburg College at 1:00 p.m.
