UMW Men's Swimmers Open CAC Championship in Dominating Fashion

The University of Mary Washington men's swimming team opened defense of its Capital Athletic Conference Championship in grand fashion on Friday, winning every race and setting two school and meet records on the day.

In the morning preliminaries, senior NCAA National Champion bettered his own mark as CAC record holder in the 50 yard freestyle, swimming to a time of 20.30 in setting new UMW and conference championship records, and gaining an NCAA provisional cut.

The Eagles opened the evening with a CAC record performance win in the 200 yard freestyle relay, as Anderson, Sean Mayer, Dallas Tarkenton, and Vance Solseth finished with a time of 1:23.18, bettering the mark set last year by UMW by two tenths of a second.

The Eagles finished 1-2-3-5 in the 500 freestyle, as Tyler Gimple finished first at 4:37.31, Zach Eisig took second at 4:38.43, Chris Cassingham finished third at 4:38.76, and Dylan Gore took fifth at 4:47.29.

UMW then dominated the 200 IM, with four finishers in the top seven places, led by winner Dallas Tarkenton with a time of 1:53.97. Christian Berardo took third at 1:56.90.

Anderson came back to win the 50 free at 20.49, and the Eagles closed the night with a first place finish in the 400 medley relay, as Mayer, Kenyon Huber-Wilker, Anderson, and Solseth took first at 3:21.71.

The CAC Championship will continue on Saturday with prelims at 10 am and finals at 6.
