UMW Swimming Head Coach Abby Brethauer Announces 2013-14 Newcomers

Fresh off of a pair of Capital Athletic Conference titles and a program-high 19th place finish at NCAA Championships, the University of Mary Washington swimming program has announced the addition of a 14-member class of 2017. The women’s team will have five new faces on deck while the men will have nine.

In the women’s class, Anna Corley will be an immediate impact swimmer in the butterfly and backstroke events while Morgan Miller will add depth to an already talented breaststroke group. Lauren Wood and Shannon Coryell look to make an impact in the sprint freestyle events, and Lauren will also be a great addition to the IM crew where she will be joined by Kris Currie, who will be one of the most versatile swimmers on the team.

On the men’s side, look for Corey Hansen in the breaststroke events along with Sam Maranto, who is a breaststroker and IMer, as is teammate Dallas Tarkenton. Nathaniel Frazer will be a great addition to the freestyle corps, and will be joined in the sprints by Henry Bassett, who will also join the top five returning conference flyers in the shorter of the disciplines. Tyler Gimple will make showings in both the 100 and 200 fly, as well as filling the hole left by graduating senior and school record holder Nick Eckhoff in the 200 and 500 freestyles. Joining him in the distance training will be Fredericksburg native Brendan Williamson, who will bring much needed depth to the d-team. Dylan Gore will be seen in events across the board ranging from the 50 to 1650 free as well as backstroke.  Finally, Don Tucker will be an impact swimmer in events from the breaststroke to sprint free and fly.

Head Coach Abby Brethauer says of her incoming class “We are so proud to have these young men and women joining the Eagle family and look forward to all that they will accomplish both in and out of the water. In addition to being stellar athletes who will come in and immediately play a role in the success of the team, they are also very talented students who over-achieve in the classroom as well. I am eagerly anticipating their arrival on campus and look forward to working with them to continue to build on our recent successes within the program.”
