Men's Swimming Races Past Washington & Lee, 167-94

Fredericksburg, Va.-- The University of Mary Washington men's swimming team hosted their first dual meet of the season against Washington & Lee. The Eagles came away with a 167-94 victory over the Generals, with an Eagle finishing first in 12 of 14 events.

The Eagles took home both relays of the night in the 200 Medley and 400 Free. In the 200 Medley, the team of Henry Bassett, Don Tucker, Dallas Tarkenton, and Matt Garstka won with a time of 1:35.87. Not to be outdone was the team of Sean Mayer, Alex Anderson, Misha Yelmgren and Vance Solseth finishing in second at 1:36.29. The 400 Free quartet of Anderson, Solseth, Bassett and Garstka won with a time of 3:13.28.

UMW got a slew of wins from different Eagles. Zach Eisig won the 1000 Free with a time of 10:15.29. Tyler Gimple (1:48.11), Bassett (52.66), and Tucker (1:00.04) finished first in the 200 Free, 100 Back and 100 Breast respectively. Alex Anderson raced out to a win in the 200 Fly with a time of 1:51.86. Vance Solseth won the 50 Free at 25.33.

The Eagles rounded out their day with wins from Bassett in the 100 Free, Gimple in the 500 Free, Anderson in the 100 Fly, and Tucker in the 200 IM.

"It's always great to swim at home. We have a great crowd and great support," head coach Abby Brethauer said following the meet. "Washington & Lee is always a big meet and it is nice to come away with a win."

The men's swimming team returns to action Friday, November 1st against York (Pa.). The meet with the Spartans begins at 6:00 p.m.
