The University of Mary Washington men's and women's swimming teams kicked off the 2012-13 season against all Division I competition at the American University Relays in Washington, D.C.

Highlights for the men's team included a third place finish in the 200 yard medley relay (Thomas Rinaldi, Peter Slattery, Andrew Cole, Andrew Garstka) at 1:40.90; a third place finish in the 800 free relay (Nick Eckhoff, Jack McHugh, Andrew Garafolo, Andrew Cole) at 7:02.64; the 300 yard backstroke relay (Michael Yelmgren, Eckhoff, Alex Anderson) at 2:42.11; and the 200 yard free relay (McHugh, Garstka, Sean Mayer, Anderson) in third at 1:29.04.

The women saw a third place finish in the 300 yard backstroke relay (Lindsay Ancellotti, Robin Brazier, Meredith Thompson) at 3:09.52; a fourth place in the 200 free relay (Tara Banks, Thompson, Jessica Singer, Stephanie Hallock) at 1:43.36; a fourth place in the 800 free relay (Abby Cox, Brazier, Singer, Alex Parrish) at 8:20.82, and a fourth place in the 200 yard medley relay (Ancellotti, Amber Kerico, Elizabeth Lewan, Thompson) at 1:55.86.

The swim teams will open the dual meet season next Saturday when they host Division I Howard University at 1:00 p.m.
