UMW's Clendenin, Crockett Named CAC Swimmers of the Week
YORK, Pa. -- Mary Washington juniors STEPHEN CLENDENIN (Ashburn, Va./Home schooled) and SARAH CROCKETT (Toano, Va./Lafayette) were selected as the CAC Swimming Athletes of the Week for Nov. 24, 2009.


MEN’S SWIMMING
Mary Washington junior STEPHEN CLENDENIN (Ashburn, Va./Home schooled) was selected the CAC Men’s Swimming Athlete of the Week for the second time this season after registering two NCAA “B” cut times, both the fastest in the CAC this season, and helping the Eagles to sixth place in the Maryland Terrapin Cup meet over the weekend. UMW was the only NCAA Division III team in the meet, but Clendenin placed third in the 400 IM (4:03.67) and sixth in the 200 IM (1:55.02), both provisionally qualifying for the NCAA Division III championships. He also finished among the top 20 competitors in the 200 backstroke, 200 butterfly and competed on the 400 medley, 200 medley and 800 freestlye relay teams.


WOMEN’S SWIMMING
Mary Washington junior SARAH CROCKETT (Toano, Va./Lafayette) was selected the CAC Women’s Swimming Athlete of the Week for the third time this season after registering eight NCAA qualifying marks, set in five individual events and three relays at the University of Maryland Terrapin Invitational. She recorded an automatic national qualifying time in the 200 freestyle (1:52.12), and broke a school record with an NCAA “B” cut time of 58.80 while finishing seventh in the 100 backstroke. She also posted NCAA “B” cuts in the 500 freestyle, 50 freestyle and 100 freestyle individual events.
