The University of Mary Washington men's and women's swimming teams started with a bang at the 2010 Capital Athletic Conference Championships hosted by St. Mary's College on Friday. Despite the morning session getting cancelled by snow, the Eagles hold early leads in the Championships.

The women's 200 yard freestyle relay (consisting of Sarah Crockett, Lindsay Ancellotti, Nina Sawyer, and Adriana Lesiuk) finished first in gaining a provisional cut for the NCAA Championships with a time of 1:37.12. The men's 200 free relay took first, missing the CAC record by a second, at 1:25.89. That relay consisted of Austin Clark, Andrew Cole, Brian O'Donnell, and Justin Anderson.

Crockett finished first in the 500 yard freestyle with a provisional NCAA cut at 5:02.11. Virginia page finished second (5:15.97), and Ashley Green third (5:19.93) in the event. In the men's race, Mary Washington took the top six spots, led by freshman Nick Eckhoff, who gained an NCAA B cut at 4:38.88. He was followed by Colin Hess, Ian McCormick, Brad Dunn, Jack McHugh, and Billy Norfolk.

Senior Nina Sawyer took second in the 200 IM at 2:08.28, and Megan DeSmit took third at 2:08.63. Both claimed provisional NCAA qualifying times. Cameron Figuers was fourth in the race. The Eagle men finished 1-2-3 in the 200 IM, with senior Justin Anderson finishing first at 1:59.26, Peter Slattery second at 1:59.73, and Andrew Cole at 2:00.34.

Junior Adriana Lesiuk set a CAC Championship record in the 50 freestyle, gaining an NCAA provisional time of 23.93. Austin Clark and Brian O'Donnell finished 1-2 in the men's 50, with Clark finishing at 21.61 and O'Donnell 21.66.

The women's 400 medley relay took first with a new CAC and Championships record time of 3:52.59. That quartet consisted of Crockett, DeSmit, Sawyer, and Lesiuk, and also posted a strong NCAA provisional time with their win. The men's relay was disqualified in their race.

The Championships will continue at St. Mary's on Saturday morning.
