UMW Men's Soccer Tops #22 Emory, 4-1, on Saturday

Four different players scored goals as the University of Mary Washington men's soccer team defeated 22nd ranked Emory University, 4-1, on Saturday afternoon in Baltimore, Md. The Eagles improve to 3-1 on the season.

Junior Aidan Shell opened the scoring for UMW at 23:48, and sophomore Carter Berg followed at 30:24 on an assist from Juan Vargas, and the UMW Eagles held a 2-0 advantage at halftime.

In the second, Emory cut the margin to 2-1 with a penalty kick at 52:07, but the Eagles answered with scores from Josh Kirkland on a Gadsoni Abel assist at 71:53, and added another from Will Thompson at 77:06.

UMW led in shots, 18-11, while Emory held a 7-6 edge in corner kicks. UMW goalkeeper Griffin Hemmendinger made four saves in the contest, improving his mark to 3-1.

The Eagles will return to action on Sunday as they face 10th ranked SUNY Cortland at Johns Hopkins at 2:30 p.m.
