Led by goals from six different players, the University of Mary Washington men's soccer team erupted for a 6-1 victory at St. Mary's College of MD on Wednesday night in St. Mary's City, Md. The Eagles improve to 7-3-2 on the season.
The Eagles scored first at 9:35, as freshman Carter Berg scored on an assist from sophomore Julian Schmugge. The Eagles added another at 27:34, as junior Josh Kirkland scored on an assist from Berg. The Seahawks scored at 33:46 to draw to within one, and the score stood at 2-1 at halftime.
In the second, Schmugge scored unassisted at 59:16, and junior Abel Luwis added another unassisted at 66:37. Freshman Will Thompson scored at 79:26 on a Diego Guzman assist, and senior Jeremy Hokenson added the capper at 80:52 unassisted.
UMW led in shots, 32-8, as well as corner kicks, 7-4. UMW goalkeeper Ken Kurtz made a pair of saves in picking up the win.
The Eagles will be back in action on Saturday, October 23, when they host Christopher Newport for Homecoming at noon.
