#19 UMW Men’s Soccer Downs York, 5-1, in Regular Season Finale

The nineteenth-ranked University of Mary Washington men's soccer team downed York College, 5-1, in their regular season finale in Fredericksburg, VA. The Eagles are now 12-3-3 overall, and 7-2-1 in the conference. UMW obtains the second seed in the upcoming CAC tournament.

The Eagles came out ready to play and avenge their 1-0 loss from earlier in the season. They had multiple chances in the opening minutes, but the Spartans goalie was turning away shots early on. UMW finally got one past the goalie as Jeremy Hokenson scored the first goal of the day on an assist from Joshua Everard in the 15th minute.

Just two minutes later, senior Jacob Lovinger added a second goal for the Eagles as he beat the goalie. UMW kept pressing forward as their offense was in total control of the game. Freshman Josh Kirkland added a goal off of a throw-in from Luke Turney and UMW held a 3-0 lead in the 38th minute. York didn't go away at the end of the first half as they scored with 1:31 left to put the game at 3-1.

UMW was not happy with the late goal that they conceded, and came out in the second half with another goal of their own. Noah Mazzatenta was played a long ball from Hokenson and Mazzatenta scored past the goalkeeper to put the Eagles back up three, 4-1.

Gabriel Francesconi capped the scoring on the day for UMW as he scored on an assist from Kirkland. UMW's defense played tough as they allowed just eight shots, including just one on goal.

Kenny Kurtz made one save in goal for the Eagles. UMW outshot York, 33-9, and had four corner kicks. York's goalkeeper, Billy Bridegum, made 16 saves in goal for the Spartans.

The Eagles will be back in action next Wednesday as they will host the winner of St. Mary's and Southern Virginia. UMW went 1-0-1 against St. Mary's, and defeated Southern Virginia in both matches.
