#24 UMW Men’s Soccer Tops SVU, 10-0, on Wednesday Afternoon

The twenty-fourth ranked University of Mary Washington men's soccer team topped Southern Virginia University, 10-0, on Wednesday afternoon. The Eagles improve to 8-2-2 on the season. Senior Idrissa Barrie recorded a hat trick, while Kris Schulte and Jake Lovinger chipped in two goals a piece.

The Eagles began the scoring early in the match as Josh Kirland scored just 2:05 in on an assist from Gabriel Soriano. Lovinger put UMW up 2-0 just 1:50 later as he scored on an assist from Jeremy Hokenson. Lovinger added his second of the game five minutes into the match.

UMW kept it rolling as Barrie added his first goal of the season six minutes in to put the Eagles up 4-0. Barrie added two more goals over the next 10 minutes to give UMW their first hat trick of the season. Both of Barrie's goals scored in that time period were assisted by Hokenson. Freshman Kris Schulte recorded his first career goal 21 minutes into the game as he scored on an assist from Noah Mazzatenta. Schulte added another goal two minutes later to give UMW an 8-0 advantage. The Eagles held the Knights to just one shot in the first half.

In the second half, the Eagles fired off some shots early but were saved by the Knights goalkeeper. UMW kept the attack on and added to their lead as freshman Matt Meadows scored his first goal of the season in the 68th minute. Joshua Everard capped the scoring on the day as he finished a pass from Alec Mowry in the 87th minute to put the Eagles up double digits, 10-0.

UMW outshot SVU 44-2, and produced three corner kicks. Kenny Kurtz made on save in goal for the Eagles.

UMW will be back in action on Saturday as they will travel to York for a CAC matchup at 3:30 pm.
