#14 UMW Men’s Soccer Tops Salisbury, 2-1, on Wednesday Afternoon

The fourteenth-ranked University of Mary Washington men's soccer team topped Salisbury University, 2-1, on Wednesday afternoon in Salisbury, MD. The Eagles improve to 7-1-2 overall, and 2-0 in the CAC. Jacob Lovinger and Kevin Conrad scored the two goals for UMW.

After falling to Salisbury in their only match-up last season, the Eagles came out ready to play from the start. Lovinger scored just 58 seconds into the game to get ahead 1-0. UMW stayed on the attack and accounted for four more shots over the next 25 minutes. 

The Seagulls got on the board in the 29th minute as they scored on their first shot. Salisbury controlled the ball over the next couple of minutes and recorded a penalty kick in the 35th minute. Kenny Kurtz came up with a save to keep the score tied at one a piece. UMW then dominated the last few minutes of the half, recording two shots but nothing on the net. 

The Eagles pressed early in the first few minutes and scored a second goal in the 48th minute. Gabriel Soriano had a shot saved that led to a corner kick. On the ensuing corner kick, Conrad scored to put UMW ahead 2-1. The Eagles played stellar defense the rest of the way to preserve the win.

UMW outshot Salisbury 12-9 and had nine corner kicks. Kurtz recorded three saves in goal for the Eagles. 

The Eagles will be back in action on Saturday when they travel to CNU for a game at 7:30 p.m.
