Kenny Kurtz Named CAC Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week

CAC -- The Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) has announced its weekly awards following the third week of the 2019 men's soccer season. York sophomore midfielder Travis Gould earned CAC Offensive Player of the Week accolades, while Mary Washington junior goalkeeper Ken Kurtz claimed CAC Defensive Player of the Week honors.


OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Travis Gould - York (Pa.)

York sophomore midfielder Travis Gould had a career day in the Spartans' 5-1 win over Juniata on Saturday as the Spartans went 1-1 for the week. Gould notched a natural hat-trick in the win over the Eagles. He put the Spartans up 2-0 as he scored his first goal of the day with 1:17 left in the first half. He then scored a mere 1:22 into the second half as he headed a corner kick into the far post. He capped his scoring flurry with his third goal just 5:41 into the second half as he banged home a rebound for the 4-0 Spartan lead. Gould finished the week with six points on his three goals. He is tied with Zion Friday for the team lead in goals with three each.


DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Ken Kurtz - Mary Washington

Mary Washington junior goalkeeper Ken Kurtz turned in a pair of shutouts this week for #20 Mary Washington, in a 2-0 victory at Lynchburg and in a scoreless draw against Roanoke. In 171:27 of action, Kurtz made six saves without allowing a goal, and has allowed three goals in six games (one on a penalty kick).

LEAGUE NOTES

Salisbury's George Fotiou scored the game-winning goal in a 1-0 victory over Virginia Wesleyan...St. Mary's Roshawn Panton led the Seahawks on the offensive end with a total of four points in 4-1 victory over Stevenson on Sept. 14. Panton tallied two goals in the victory as the Seahawks improved to a perfect 5-0 on the season...Patrick Paolini allowed just one goal and collected four saves in a 4-1 victory over Stevenson on Sept. 14. Additionally, Paolini earned his fifth victory in goal this season...Southern Virginia's Heaton led the Knights' offense on the week as he accounted for three points as the team split the week 1-1. Heaton scored the lone goal against Hampden-Sydney for his first of the 2019 season. Heaton's play was vital in the team's first win of the season as he accounted for the assist to the game-winning goal in 2OT against Shenandoah...Solis anchored the Knights with his stellar play at goal after opening the week with a shutout against Shenandoah for the team's first win of the season tallying nine saves. He later added five more save the following game against Hampden-Sydney to average seven saves per game.
