#19 UMW Men's Soccer Tops Penn State Harrisburg, 5-0, in Wednesday CAC Action

The 19th ranked University of Mary Washington men's soccer team erupted for five goals in a 5-0 victory over Penn State University-Harrisburg on Wednesday afternoon at the Battleground in Capital Athletic Conference action. The Eagles improve to 10-1-3 (3-1-1 in CAC), while the Lions slip to 14-2-2 (1-2-2).

The Eagles reached the scoreboard at 10:43, as senior Gary Foley scored on a pass from Idrissa Barrie. Sophomore Joshua Everard upped the lead to 2-0 at 35:53 with an unassisted score, and the score stayed at 2-0 to halftime.

In the second half, the Eagles continued to apply the pressure on the Lions, who had only given up five goals all season before Wednesday. At 53:16, Ben Ahrens scored on a pass from Conor MacMurdy, and then, just 1:46 later, senior Ryan Van Maanen scored on a Barrie assist.

Barrie capped the scoring at 61:37 on a Jeremy Hokenson assist.

The Eagles led in shots, 13-6, including a 9-1 margin on frame, and 4-2 in corner kicks. UMW goalkeeper Ken Kurtz had one save in 69 mintes, and junior Tom Skeer didn't register a stop in 21 minutes. Nicholas Guglielmetti had one save and Hunter Cooper had one for the Lions.

Mary Washington will host Christopher Newport University on Saturday for Homecoming at 3:30 pm in a rematch of last season's CAC Championship.
