#8 UMW Men’s Soccer Plays to 1-1 Draw at Randolph-Macon on Sunday

The eighth-ranked University of Mary Washington men's soccer team played to a 1-1 draw at  Randolph-Macon on Sunday evening in Ashland, VA. The Eagles are now 9-1-3 on the season.

After traveling to Salisbury yesterday, the Eagles came out on the attack as they had two corners kicks and a shot in the first 10 minutes of the game. UMW had another corner kick and shot at the 19th minute but could not convert any of those chances. Over the last 26 minutes, both teams played even as they both had two shots but nothing to show for it.

Jeremy Hokenson had a good look at goal just 25 seconds into the second half, but came up empty as he hit the cross bar. The Yellow Jackets got on the board for their lone goal of the game in the 55th minute. The Eagles amped up the energy as they reeled off a couple of shots over the next 20 minutes but the Randolph-Macon goalkeeper came up with saves. Ryan Van Maanen finally got the Eagles on the board in the 78th minute as he found a ball bouncing around in the box and put it in the back of the net. Both defenses held tough over the last 12 minutes as each team tried to attack when they could.

In the two overtimes, neither team could find any rhythm and both teams had a few chances at goal but could not find the game-winner.

The Eagles outshot the Yellow Jackets 19-10, and had nine corner kicks. Ken Kurtz made three saves on the day for the Eagles.

UMW will be back in action on Wednesday as they will host Penn St.-Harrisburg at 3:30 p.m.
