#8 UMW Men's Soccer Falls at Salisbury, 2-1, in First Defeat of Season

The eighth-ranked University of Mary Washington men's soccer team dropped a 2-1 decision at Salisbury University in Capital Athletic Conference play on Saturday afternoon. The Eagles slip to 9-1-2 on the season, and allow more than one goal for the first time all year.

The Eagles jumped ahead with the first score, as senior Ryan Van Maanen took a Justin Carey assist to find the nets at 24:41. Salisbury would knot the score at 1-1 at 37:46, and the game remained tied through intermission.

In the second half, Salisbury's Matt McKenzie scored his first goal of the season on a direct free kick at 87:21 for the winning score.

The Eagles led in shots, 19-13, as well as in corner kicks, 6-3. Eagle goalie Ken Kurtz made three saves, while Trevor Brookhart had six for the Sea Gulls.

Mary Washington will return to action on Sunday when they visit Randolph-Macon College at 4:00 p.m. in nonconference action.
