#19 UMW Men's Soccer Ties York, 1-1, in CAC Opener

The 19th ranked University of Mary Washington men's soccer team competed to a 1-1 draw with York College (Pa.) in the Capital Athletic Conference opener on Saturday at the Battleground. The Eagles move to 7-0-2, while York moves to 6-3-1.

The Eagles scored first, as senior Conor MacMurdy connected on a header from junior Lucas Turney on a corner kick at 41:13. The Eagles held the lead through halftime, but the Spartans found the tying score at 74:06, as Malcolm Djiki evened the score off a cross. The score was the first that UMW had allowed after halftime all season.

The teams traded shots from there, but neither could find the winning tally. The Eagles led in shots, 18-11, as well as in corner kicks, 14-4.

UMW goalkeeper Ken Kurtz had four saves on the day, while York's Billy Bridegum had 10.

The Eagles will return to action next Saturday, when they visit St. Mary's College in another CAC showdown starting at 4:00 p.m.
