Senior Justin Carey scored in the opening minutes and again in overtime to lead the University of Mary Washington men's soccer team to a 2-1 overtime victory at 13th ranked Johns Hopkins University on Saturday in Baltimore, Md. The Eagles improve to 4-0 on the season.

As they have in every game thus far, the Eagles jumped out to an early lead. Carey scored at 3:48 on an assist from senior Gary Foley, to extend UMW's streak of scoring in the opening five minutes of every game thus far. UMW held the 1-0 advantage until the 35 minute mark, as Johns Hopkins scored on a penalty kick to knot the score.

The game remained deadlocked at 1-1 through halftime and the entire second half, as the teams traded blows, but neither could find the capper. With 6:28 elapsed in overtime, junior Lucas Turney found himself free along the right sideline, and his cross found the head of Carey, whose header eluded the Hopkins keeper for the deciding score. Carey now has four goals in three games this season.

Johns Hopkins had a 14-13 edge in shots on the day, and also led in corner kicks, 8-4. UMW goalkeeper Ken Kurtz made six saves for the Eagles, while Xander LeFevre made two saves for the Blue Jays.

The Eagles will return to action on Sunday, as they face St. John Fisher in Baltimore at 3:30 p.m.
