Hokenson Named Rookie of the Year as Three Eagles Named to VaSID College Division All-State Men's Soccer Team

BRIDGEWATER, Va. – The Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID) announced the 2017 College Division All-State Men's Soccer Teams on Thursday. Christopher Newport midfielder Jimmy Grace was named Player of the Year, Mary Washington forward Jeremy Hokenson was the Rookie of the Year and Lynchburg's Chris Yeager was selected as the state Coach of the Year.

Ten different Virginia programs were represented on this year's men's soccer All-State teams, chosen from programs at the Division II, III and NAIA level. Christopher Newport had the most first-team selections with four while Lynchburg had the most total picks with six – three on first team and three on second team. Eastern Mennonite placed two players on the first unit while Washington and Lee, Averett and Randolph each had one first-team selection.

Due to ties in voting at the midfielder position, the all-state first team featured 12 players.

Christopher Newport midfielder Jimmy Grace (Ashburn, Va.) was named VaSID Player of the Year and earned a spot on the all-state first team after being chosen as the Capital Athletic Conference Player of the Year for the second consecutive season. This past season he led the conference with 14 goals and added four assists to pace the nation's second leading offense. Grace was also a 2017 first-team, all-region selection by United Soccer Coaches (USC).

University of Mary Washington forward Jeremy Hokenson was named the VaSID Rookie of the Year and landed a spot on the all-state second team after being named 2017 CAC Rookie of the Year. Hokenson, a second-team All-CAC pick, led the Eagles in scoring with seven goals and five assists.

Lynchburg College's Chris Yeager was named VaSID Coach of the Year after leading the Hornets to an undefeated record in conference play and the program's second straight ODAC title. Yeager was named the ODAC Coach of the Year for the sixth time in 16 seasons.

VaSID names 27 all-state teams in 15 sports each year, as well as an Academic All-State squad and an all-sports champion in both the University and College Divisions. Membership in VaSID is open to all media relations professionals working at a University or conference in the state of Virginia.
