Justin Carey Named CAC Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. -- Mary Washington junior Justin Carey and Salisbury junior Trevor Brookhart were named the CAC Men's Soccer Players of the Week for Oct. 30, 2017.

Mary Washington junior Justin Carey was named the CAC Offensive Player of the Week after scoring a goal in each of the Eagles' wins last week against Frostburg State and Penn State Harrisburg. Carey notched UMW's third goal in a 4-3 victory over Penn State Harrisburg in the regular season finale, helping lift the Eagles to the No. 3 seed and a first-round home game in the CAC Tournament. In the CAC first round, he scored an insurance goal in the 58th minute to give the Eagles a 3-1 triumph. 

 

Defensive Player of the Week

Salisbury junior Trevor Brookhart earned CAC Defensive Player of the Week honors for the second straight week after registering 10 saves and leading the Sea Gulls past York in penalty kicks in the first round of the CAC Tournament on Saturday. Brookhart allowed just one goal in 110 minutes of action against the Spartans. In penalty kicks, Brookhart came up with a diving save on York's first penalty kick attempt and converted on a penalty kick of his own in the 10th round before saving the ensuing York attempt to win it for the Sea Gulls. Brookhart also made two saves in a 6-1 win over Wesley earlier in the week.

Wednesday's CAC semifinals will feature No. 5 Salisbury at No. 1 Christopher Newport and No. 3 Mary Washington at No. 2 St. Mary's ... Christopher Newport is ranked No. 25 in the D3soccer.com poll ... In the NCAA Regional Rankings, Christopher Newport is ranked No. 7 and Mary Washington is No. 8 in the South Atlantic Region ... CNU senior Jimmy Grace had two goals in 3-1 win over Marymount. White also converted his penalty kick attempt in PKs in the first round game against York, helping Salisbury advance to the semifinals.
