UMW Men's Soccer Falls on Late PK to CNU, 2-1, at Homecoming

The University of Mary Washington men's soccer team dropped a tough 2-1 decision to Christopher Newport University on Saturday at Homecoming. The Eagles fall to 11-4-1 overall, and 6-2 in Capital Athletic Conference play.

In first half action, the visitors found the only score of the frame. At 19:13, Daniel Zeitoun scored on a Davis Pillow assist.

The Eagles found the tying score early in the second half, as freshman Jeremy Hokenson scored on a Gary Foley assist. The score remained tied until 81:50, when CNU's Jimmy Grace scored on a penalty kick. The Captains held on, despite a late flurry in their penalty area, as they were able to clear several chances.

Each team had nine shots in the game, while UMW held a 2-1 edge in corner kicks. UMW goalkeeper Matt Spencer had two saves, while CNU's Zach Pedini had two as well.

The Eagles will close the regular season on Tuesday when they visit Penn State Harrisburg at 3:00 p.m.
