Junior forward Justin Carey scored a pair of goals to lead the University of Mary Washington men's soccer team to a 3-1 victory at Virginia Wesleyan College on Wednesday night in Virginia Beach. The Eagles improve to 6-2-1 on the season.
Carey opened the scoring at 10:38, scoring on a Jeremy Hokenson assist. The Eagles gained an insurance tally just before halftime, as Jacob Lovinger scored on a Tommy Mead pass at 42:17.
In the second half, the hosts reached the scoreboard at 48:23 on an Andrew Freedman score, but Carey regained a two-goal margin for the Eagles at 53:15, scoring on a Ryan Van Maanen assist.
The Eagles led in shots, 20-11, as well as in corner kicks, 7-3. UMW goalkeeper Matt Spencer didn't record a save, as 10 Marlin shots were off frame.
UMW will return to action on Saturday when they host Salisbury University at 3:30 pm in Capital Athletic Conference action.
