UMW Men's Soccer Falls in OT at #22 CNU, 2-1, on Friday Night

The University of Mary Washington men's soccer team dropped a 2-1 decision at 22nd ranked Christopher Newport University on Friday night in a battle of Capital Athletic Conference unbeatens. The Eagles slip to 10-3 overall, and 5-1 in league play.

The Captains opened the scoring, netting the game's first goal at 30:50, as Andrew Gogolinscored unassisted. CNU held a 1-0 through intermission.

In the second, the Eagles found the equalizer at 78:44, as Jack Nelson scored his first of the season on an assist from Lucas Turney off a throw in. The teams would battle through the end of regulation still knotted at 1-1. The hosts found the game winner at 93:45, Stephen Durbin scored on a header on a cross.

CNU led in shots, 27-11, while UMW held a 5-4 edge in corner kicks. UMW goalkeeper Matt Spencer had six saves in 60 minutes, and fellow junior Curran Smolinsky added one save in 33 minutes. CNU's Zach Pedini had four saves.

The Eagles will be back in action on Wednesday when theye host St. Mary's College at 3:00 p.m. in another key matchup between two of the top teams in the CAC.
