UMW Men's Soccer Tops Frostburg State, 3-1, on Wednesday Evening

The University of Mary Washington men's soccer team broke open an early 1-1 tie with a pair of second half scores to top Frostburg State University, 3-1, on Wednesday night in Frostburg in Capital Athletic Conference action. The Eagles improve to 8-2 overall, and 3-0 in league play.

Sophomore Ryan Van Maanen opened the scoring at 12:50 for UMW, but the Bobcats responded with a score 1:15 later to knot the score at 1-1. The game would remain tied until halftime.

The Eagles seized the lead 9:22 into the second half, as senior Riley Fisher netted the eventual game winner. Senior Jacob Burke added an insurance tally at 73:41 to push the score to 3-1.

Mary Washington led in shots, 12-11, as well as in corner kicks, 8-2. Junior goalkeeper Matt Spencer made seven shots for the Eagles, while Hassan Mostafa had three saves for Frostburg.

UMW will be back in action on Saturday afternoon when they host York College of Pa. at 3:30 p.m. Following the game, all UMW Junior Eagle Kids Club members will be invited onto the field to meet the team.
