UMW Men's Soccer Cruises Past Guilford, 4-0, on Saturday in Danville, Va.

Two goals from Sophomore Ryan Van Maanen led the University of Mary Washington men's soccer team to a 4-0 victory over Guilford College on Saturday afternoon at Averett University in Danville, Virginia.

In the early going, UMW established the flow of the game, while putting tons of pressure on Guilford's defense. The Eagles continued to press as Van Maanen put away the first score of the afternoon at the 31:03 mark. Neither team would score the rest of the half, as the Eagles headed into the break leading 1-0.

In the second half, Mary Washington continued to create chances, but didn't find the net until the 70:07 mark when freshman Ethan Greene found Van Maanen in the box for his second goal of the game. UMW pushed their lead to 3-0 when senior Riley Fisher headed in his second goal of the season at 83:06. Just minutes later, freshman Gabriel Soriano scored his first goal on an assist from sophomore Yabtsiega Hayba to put a cap on the scoring at 4-0.

Mary Washington led in shots, 24-1, and in corner kicks, 9-3. Junior goalkeeper Matt Spencer had a clean sheet for the Eagles, and Eric Hayes had four saves in goal for Guilford.

The Eagles (4-0) will be back in action on Sunday as they travel to Guilford, N.C. to take on Berry College at noon.
