UMW Men's Soccer Tops Stockton, 4-1, in UMW Classic on Saturday

The University of Mary Washington men's soccer team used goals from four different players in topping Stockton University, 4-1, on Saturday in the UMW Classic. The Eagles improve to 2-0 on the season.

Mary Washington wasted little time in starting the scoring, as freshman Jacob Lovinger scored unassisted after senior Riley Fisher's header hit the crossbar. The Ospreys answered back with a score from Alex Kourahanis at 8:57 to tie the score at 1-1 on their first shot of the day.

The Eagles seized the lead at 33:44, when freshman Daniel Kalke scored his second goal in as many days on a pass from senior Mitchell Williams. UMW added an insurance score before halftime, as freshman Idrissa Barrie netted his first goal on a Robert Tata assist at 40:59. UMW carried the 3-1 advantage to halftime.

In the second, the defenses tightened, and neither team found the net until sophomore Jack Saslowsky netted his second goal of the season at 85:54. UMW held the 4-1 advantage to the final horn.

Mary Washington led in shots, 22-4, and in corner kicks, 7-1. Junior goalkeeper Matt Spencer had two saves for the Eagles, while Michael Lescanohad seven saves for Stockton.

The Eagles (2-0) will be back in action on Wednesday when they host Catholic University at 4:00 p.m.
