UMW Men's Soccer Ties St. Mary's, 2-2, on Wednesday in CAC Thriller

The University of Mary Washington men's soccer team jumped out to a first half lead, and held on for a 2-2 draw at St. Mary's College on Wednesday afternoon in a key Capital Athletic Conference match. The Eagles move to 10-5-1 overall and 3-3-1 in league play.

The contest remained scoreless through the opening 30 minutes, when UMW freshman Ryan Van Maanen scored on a Jacob Burke assist. The Eagles held the 1-0 advantage through halftime.

In the second half, St. Mary's tied the score at 1-1 at 54:35, when Nick Tait scored for the Seahawks. Just over one minute later, the Eagles would regain the lead on a goal from senior Mike Bennett, unassisted.

The Seahawks tied the score for good at 61:16, on a score from Juwan Kearson, unassisted. The teams battled through the rest of regulation and both overtimes without a decideing goal.

UMW led in shots, 33-21, and in corner kicks, 9-2. UMW goalkeeper Matt Spencer had seven saves for the Eagles, while Zack Haussler had 15 stops for the Seahawks.

Mary Washington will be back in action on Saturday when the Eagles host Christopher Newport University at 3:30 p.m. for Homecoming in a key CAC battle.
