Nogueira's Goal Lifts UMW Men's Soccer Past Frostburg State, 1-0, on Tuesday

Sophomore Conor Nogueira scored the game's only goal at the 57:45 mark to lift the University of Mary Washington men's soccer team to a 1-0 victory over Frostburg State University on Tuesday afternoon at the Battleground. The Eagles improve to 9-3 on the season, eclipsing last year's win total, and are now 2-1 in Capital Athletic Conference play.

In a tightly contested match throughout, neither team could break free for a quality chance in the first half, and the score remained scoreless at halftime.

In the second, the Eagles scored after Mike Bennett headed a throw in into the fray in front of the goal, with Nogueira taking a deflection off a save to score unassisted.

The Eagles held a 7-6 edge in shots, and Frostburg held a 4-3 edge in corner kicks. Sophomore goalie Matt Spencer made a pair of saves in gaining the shutout, his eighth of the season. Hassan Mostafa had three saves for Frostburg.

Mary Washington will return to action on Saturday when they visit York College of Pa. in another CAC contest, starting at 3:00 p.m.
