UMW Men's Soccer Falls to Dickinson, 3-1, on Wednesday

The University of Mary Washington men's soccer team dropped a 3-1 decision at home against Dickinson College on Wednesday evening at the Battleground. The Eagles drop only their second contest of the season, falling to 7-2.

In a physical game that saw five total yellow cards, it was the Eagles who were on the offensive early in the first half. UMW was unable to convert, but capitalized at the 15:25 mark when senior Mike Bennett placed the ball in the net to give the Eagles a 1-0 lead.

Dickinson struck back in the 27th minute on a goal from Matthew Edmonds, tying the score at 1-1. Neither team would find the net for the rest of the half.

Dickinson scored again just under two minutes into the second half, taking a 2-1 lead on a goal from Ryan Brown. Dickinson increased their lead to 3-1 in the 79th minute, capping the scoring for the night.

UMW lead in shots, 19-12, and in corner kicks 7-1. Sophomore goalie Curran Smolinsky had three saves in goal for Mary Washington.

The Eagles will return to action on Saturday to open up Capital Athletic Conference play when they visit Wesley at 7:00 p.m.
