Fisher Scores Early Again; UMW Men's Soccer Tops Hood, 1-0, on Sunday in UMW Classic

Junior Riley Fisher scored the game's lone goal at 15:41, leading the University of Mary Washington men's soccer team to its second 1-0 victory in as many days, as the Eagles blanked Hood College, 1-0, on Sunday in the UMW Soccer Classic. The Eagles improve to 3-0 on the season.

Fisher netted the Eagles goal on an assist from sophomore Conor Nogueira, also for the second day in a row. The goal opened up several chances for the Eagles, who were unable to find an insurance tally, despite outshooting the Blazers, 10-2, in the first half, and 9-7 in the second.

"We played well defensively again today", said UMW head coach Jason Kilby. "We had some chances to finish throughout play, but didn't capitalize. Fortunately, Riley scored early again to get us going, but we need to do better finishing when given the chance."

In addiiton to a 19-9 shot advantage, the Eagles led in corner kicks, 6-2. Sophomore Matt Spencer made six saves in goal for the Eagles, while Hood's Joe Centeno had five stops for the Blazers.

Mary Washington will be back in action on Wednesday when they visit Catholic University at 4:00 p.m.
