UMW Men's Soccer Ties Penn St. Harrisburg Behind Burke's Two Scores, 2-2

Sophomore forward Jacob Burke scored a pair of goals to lead the University of Mary Washington men's soccer team to a 2-2 tie with visiting Penn State Harrisburg on Wednesday afternoon at the Battleground. The Eagles move to 8-7-3 on the season, and end the Capital Athletic Conference slate with a 5-3-1 league mark.

The visitors started the scoring, connecting on their first shot at 5:59 as Jon Willingham scored on an Aaron Kline assist. The Lions, despite being outshot, 7-1, in the half, led 1-0 at halftime.

Burke quickly evened the score in the second half, connecting on a hooking shot from near the right endline at 46:59 that snuck inside the far post. Burke then put the Eagles ahead with a 25-foot blast at 75:50, but Willingham scored again at 82:06 to tie the score once again.

The Eagles held a 13-7 shot advantage, and a 6-5 corner kick edge. Goalkeeper Tyler Back had one save for the Eagles, while Brandon Hoover had three stops for PSUH.

Both teams end the regular season with identical 5-3-1 conference records. UMW will be the fourth seed in the tournament and host fifth seeded Christopher Newport University on Saturday in the opening round. Game time is set for 2:00 pm.
