Eagles Men's Soccer Blanks Randolph-Macon, 2-0, in Tuesday Action

The University of Mary Washington men's soccer team scored a pair of goals in less than a minute of play to defeat Randolph-Macon College, 2-0, on Tuesday at the Battleground. The Eagles improve to 4-4-2 on the season.

After playing most of the first half scoreless, sophomore Jacob Burke scored at 37:03 on a Carlos Mendoza assist to give the Eagles a 1-0 lead. Just 56 later, freshman Aaron Kaye scored his first goal to give the Eagles an insurance tally and the 2-0 lead they carried to halftime.

The Eagles blistered the goal for 14 shots in the second half, but could not add to their margin. In all, UMW led 23-6 in shots, and 8-3 in corner kicks.

Freshman Matt Spencer had four saves for the Eagles, while C.J. Montalbano had 11 saves for Randolph-Macon. The Eagles will return to action on Saturday when they visit 20th ranked Salisbury University in a key early season Capital Athletic Conference showdown at 1:00 p.m.
