YORK, Pa. -- The Capital Athletic Conference announced its Sept.
9, 2013, weekly award winners:
MEN’S SOCCER
Mary Washington senior
midfielder TOMMY SANGBOUASY (Manassas, Va./Osbourn) was selected as
the CAC Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week while
Wesley senior keeper MARK MATTERN (Carney, Md./Kenwood) was picked
as the CAC Men’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week for
Sept. 9, 2013.
Sangbouasy is the CAC
Offensive Player of the Week after three goals and an assist in
leading the Eagles to three victories. Sangbouasy contributed
an assist and an insurance tally in UMW’s midweek victory at
Randolph-Macon, then added two scores on penalty kicks, including
the game-winner, in the last 15 minutes of Sunday’s 3-2
triumph at Virginia Wesleyan.
Mattern is the CAC
Defensive Player of the Week after recording a pair of shutouts as
the Wolverines gained a win and a tie in non-conference
action. Mattern had eight saves during the week for Wesley,
which finished the midweek tie at Centenary shorthanded as two
players were disqualified in the second half.
WOMEN’S SOCCER
Mary Washington senior
forward ERIN REYNOLDS (Oakton, Va./Oakton) was named the CAC
Women’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week while Penn State
Harrisburg goalie MACKENZIE GATES (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin)
was selected as the CAC Women’s Soccer Defensive Player of
the Week for Sept. 9, 2013.
Reynolds was named the
CAC Offensive Player of the Week after finding the back of the net
four times this week - accounting for all of UMW’s offense in
a 1-1 week. Reynolds posted her first hat trick of the season
in a 3-0 win over Emory & Henry Saturday, then added
UMW’s lone score, her team-best sixth goal of the season, in
Sunday’s 2-1 loss to Washington & Lee.
Gates is the CAC
Defensive Player of the Week after posting a midweek shutout
victory, then making three 1v1 saves in the final five minutes to
preserve a 3-2 road win over Mount Aloysius that kept the Lady
Lions undefeated this season.
