Men's Soccer Falls to Christopher Newport, 1-0

Fredericksburg, Va.-- The University of Mary Washington men's soccer team was defeated by Christopher Newport, 1-0 on Wednesday from the Battleground. The Eagles fall to 8-6 and 2-3 in Capital Athletic Conference play on the year. 

The Captains scored the lone goal of the match in the first half at the 27:53 mark. Mark Brewington took a pass from Caleb Lewis and headed it past UMW keeper Ian Waltz (Potomac Falls, Va./Potomac Falls). The Eagles had a couple chances late in the second half, one coming from freshman Dylan Katz (Reston, Va./South Lakes). Katz took a corner from Mike Bennett (Kings Park, N.Y./Smithtown) but could not put it past Captain keeper Sean Killion who made six saves in the contest.

Waltz made three saves for the Eagles. The Eagles mustered ten shots in the contest; with Katz, Nick Shepherd (Palmyra, Va./Fluvanna County) and Jacob Burke (Spotslyvania, Va./Chancellor) each having two shots. UMW had nine corner kicks to Christopher Newport's three, but could not capitalize.

The Eagles return to action this Saturday, October 19th. Mary Washington will travel to Penn St. Harrisburg to take on the Lions beginning at 4:00 p.m.
