Eagles Rally to Defeat Wesley, 2-1 in Double Overtime

Dover, Del.-- The  University of Mary Washington men's soccer team needed overtime, but defeats Wesley in double overtime on Saturday. Freshman Jacob Burke scored both tallies in the win, improving the Eagles to 8-5, 2-2 CAC on the year.

Wesley wasted no time getting on the board. Sheldon Blue took a pass from Oluwatobi Sowande just 12 seconds into the game to take a 1-0 lead. 

Midway through the second half, freshman Jacob Burke (Spotsylvania, Va./Chancellor) tied up the game at the 71:57 mark of the game. Burke took a Kevin Murphy (Fairfax, Va./Robinson) pass and headed it in past Wesley keeper Mark Mattern. 

Burke struck again in the second overtime, this time winning the game for the Eagles. Burke got a pass from Guy Cross (Arlington, Va./St. John's College HS) and headed it on the left side past Mattern at the 105:24 mark. 

UMW keeper Ian Waltz (Potomac Falls, Va./Potomac Falls) made three saves for the Eagles in the contest. Burke led the team in shots with six, while Mike Bennett (Kings Park, N.Y./Smithtown) added five for the winners. 

The Eagles return to action on Wednesday, October 16th. UMW hosts Christopher Newport in CAC action from the Battleground, beginning at 4:00 p.m.
