Salisbury Defeats Men's Soccer, 2-0

Fredericksburg, Va.-- The University of Mary Washington men's soccer team was defeated 2-0 on Wednesday at the hands of Salisbury. The Sea Gulls scored twice in the second half to earn the victory. 

The game was scoreless after one half, in a rain soaked affair. Early in the second half, Salisbury broke through on the scoreboard with Jake Perry putting a shot past Eagle keeper Ian Waltz (Potomac Falls, Va./Potomac Falls) off an assist from Matt Greene to give the Sea Gulls a 1-0 lead. The Sea Gulls scored again with just under six minutes remaining to seal the victory. Trevor Sharpe took a Perry pass, and lifted it over Waltz to take a 2-0 lead. 

Salisbury outshot the Eagles 12-7 on the day, with Mike Bennett (Kings Park, N.Y./Smithtown) and Nick Shepherd (Palmyra, Va./Fluvanna County) each recording two shots to lead the Eagles. Waltz made four saves for Mary Washington. With the loss, the Eagles fall to 7-5 overall and 1-2 in Captial Athletic Conference play on the year. 

The Eagles return to action against Wesley on Saturday, October 12th. The Eagles travel to Wesley for a match beginning at 5:00 p.m.
